SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa is a pioneer in Wildlife tourism. It is also the standard on which other countries judge themselves. Innovations in this type of tourism begin here and you can be fairly certain of the standards of their camps, lodges and service. This is also a destination with options for every type of traveller and age. Budget, medium, up-market and OTT luxury. Honeymooners, families with kids, adventurous, first timers and young adults. All will find value for money. If you are the ‘no budget’ type this is the country that will cater to you every whim and fancy in the bush. Besides wildlife this is a great destination for city and cultural tourism too. You could spend a few days in and around the Kruger National Park, followed by a few days in swinging Cape Town and its waterfront, restaurants, art galleries and maybe even get in a music festival. If that’s not enough, you can drive around the Stellenbosch/Franshhoek winelands for some fantastic wine and food. In short South Africa has something for all!!!

TRAVELLER INFORMATION

WHEN TO GO: In our opinion, South Africa is a year-round Safari destination. It really comes down to your interests, where & when you want to visit and the weather. Please note that weather patterns across Africa are becoming increasingly unpredictable due to global warming.

WEATHER

  • As it is located in the Southern Hemisphere, winter (dry season) and summer (wet season) in most parts of the county, are opposite times of the year from Asia, Europe & North America.
  • As you climb in altitude, temperatures fall by about 5(°c). There are also differences influenced by the ocean. The east coast is on the Indian Ocean (warm current) and the west coast is on the Atlantic (cold current).
  • Little rainfall and low humidity throughout winter. As water is limited, animals tend to gather around the few available water sources. Towards the Western Cape, you can expect some rain and lower temperatures.
  • May is towards the end of summer. Temperatures are around 10(°c) in the mornings/evenings and go up to 25(°c) in the afternoons.
  • June to August can get quite cold. 5(°c) in the mornings/evenings. But it warms up in the afternoons.
  • September & October is pleasant. About 10-12°c in the mornings/evenings and 28(°c) in the daytime.
  • Afternoon storms are experienced and it can get quite hot and humid. Especially towards the Kalahari sides where it can go up to 40(°c).
  • October & November is still warm with some rain in the afternoons.
  • December to February experiences the max rain (mostly in the afternoons). Temperatures go up to around 28-30(°c) in the day.
  • By March/April, rainfall decreases and temperatures begin to drop.
  • April evenings are cool/pleasant.

GETTING THERE

Most Safaris start from either Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airports. We do not book international flights however, we will suggest the very best arrival/departure options, which work with your itinerary. We would be happy to book all of your transport, flights and charters for you (within South Africa) so that everything else is taken care of from the time you land until you depart.

VISAS

Entry requirements can change. All visitors should check with their local embassy/consulate or travel agent to verify the updated requirements and apply well in advance. If you are coming from India 9 or most of Asia, you will require a visa. British, US citizens and most European countries do not require a visa for entry into South Africa.

VACCINATIONS

If you are travelling from anywhere infected with Yellow Fever, you must have a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. Otherwise, no other immunizations are required. All visitors should check with their local embassy/consulate or their travel agent for complete and up-to- date information. (Ideally, 4-6 weeks prior to travel) Please check with your general practitioner for any precautionary other vaccinations you might wish to take.
