UGANDA

Winston Churchill called Uganda the ‘Pearl of Africa’. This beautiful country, situated at the western edge of the Great Rift Valley with the ubiquitous rolling plains of Eastern Africa and the dense, tropical jungles of Central Africa, is scenically dramatic. Its Idi Amin days are over and the country is slowly climbing back to its position as one of Africa’s great Safari destinations. This is also the country where all great European explorers spent years looking for the ‘Source of the Nile’ with many historic places and junctures full of anecdotes about them. With such a varied topography Uganda has a rich diversity of wildlife. Its wild life reserves, many lakes and tropical forests are an attraction for good wildlife viewing and spectacular landscapes. It is also one of the three countries in the world offering a Gorilla Trek. You can also see Chimpanzees in Kibale National Park. Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks are well endowed with the usual plains game and predators. The Great Rift Valley lakes that dot the Western Rift (Lake Albert, Edward and Victoria) are fantastic, especially for bird-watching enthusiasts and photographers as they add a different dimension to the landscape. All in all the beauty and diversity of Uganda warrant its name as ‘The Pearl of Africa”.

TRAVELLER INFORMATION

WHEN TO GO: In our opinion, Uganda is a year-round Safari destination. It really comes down to your interests, where & when you want to visit and the weather. Please note that weather patterns across Africa are becoming increasingly unpredictable due to global warming.

WEATHER

  • Located close to the equator, Uganda has a pleasant climate throughout the year. It does not experience extreme weather or a summer or winter however there is a wet and dry season.
  • June-August is usually the driest (mostly in the south) but this is unpredictable and it can rain any time. It is also the most popular time for treks and safaris due to less rain.
  • Daytime temperatures are between 25-33(°c) dropping to around 15(°c) in the mornings/evenings. As you climb in altitude, temperatures will be lower. Further up North temperatures will be higher/drier and even experience drought on some years.
  • The hottest months are January-February.
  • Daytime temperatures are between 25-28(°c), dropping to around 15(°c) in the mornings/evenings. As you climb in altitude, temperatures will be lower. Further up North temperatures will be higher/drier.
